WITCHES, druids and bards are on their way to Stroud for their annual conference.

The Wessex branch of the Pagan Federation is meeting in Lansdown Hall on Saturday.

Witch Jan Hardy, who lives on a canal boat in Frampton-on-Severn, is conference organiser.

The event has previously been held in Glastonbury but Jan, pictured, a retired advertising executive, felt it was time to bring the gathering to Stroud.

Around 150 pagans are expected and speakers include Stroud storyteller and bard Kevan Manwaring along with witch and High Priestess of the Hearth of Arianrhod Anna Franklin.

Pagans believe in a god and goddess and the life force of nature, said Jan. Stalls set up in the Lansdown Hall gallery include Boscastle's Museum of Witchcraft and Borrage the Elf's fairy houses. They open from 9.45am to 5.15pm.
