Home-owners push upward trend with finances

A new survey reveals an improvement in the financial situation of people who own their home or who have a mortgage, as the Government's Funding for Lending Scheme caused interest rates to drop.

The results, released by financial information company Markit, come as Property Life re-starts its Getmoving campaign.

The campaign, re-launched last week, aims to encourage home-hunters to move into or around the Five Valleys and Gloucestershire by supporting those potential buyers as well as estate agents and developers.

And agents are already throwing their weight behind the campaign.

Simon Trippett, area manager at The Property Centre, which has an office in Stroud, said: "There are misconceptions concerning the availability of mortgages and property. I believe the Getmoving campaign aims to correct these views."

In other parts of the county, David Baker, managing director of CGT Lettings, said the campaign would help people make informed choices.

He said: "At CGT Lettings we are delighted that the Getmoving campaign is being re-launched and will be supporting and contributing with the intention of informing, educating and advising readers on many landlord and tenant issues.

Adrian Barnes, director at Adams Estate Agents, said: "The Getmoving campaign has been great at conveying the message that there is real life in the property market, properties are selling and letting and people should not be put off moving if they want to. There's no real reason not to get moving in 2013."

Property Life first launched the Getmoving campaign in November 2011. As a result it has strengthened its ties with estate agents and developers to find the best deals and encourage market confidence.

Meanwhile, Markit's latest monthly household finance index, which was compiled using research from 1,500 adults across Britain, showed an improvement in the financial situation of people who own a house or have a mortgage.

    What planet are these people on? There are houses near me that have been for sale for over a year, they've had several price drops and are now priced about the same as they were worth in 2005. People on local wages of around £6.50 to £8 per hour simply cannot afford an average mortgage on a £150k property of £1,000 per month for 25 to 30 years, let alone needing to find a 20% (£30,000) deposit in cash!!! Get real, the housing market is struggling and new house builders are finding they are getting stuck with a lot of part-exchanged houses that no-one can afford or want. Thesedays young couples start off by renting not buying a small house for around £550 to £700 a month and find it's so hard to save with all the other rising costs of utilities & running a car each.
