What a fantastic opportunity exists for Gloucester to do something exciting with the prison site.

If this is developed correctly it could make the development of Blackfriars far more interesting and help in connecting the city centre to the docks and Quays.

I have always been impressed with the docks' regeneration and now there is a real opportunity to do something more to improve this great city.

There is no doubt that if the prison is developed sympathetically this is going to have a positive effect on the area and on residential property prices at the docks. Along with the property market generally, prices have dropped at the docks over recent years but I have no doubt with this news and the continued development of the Quays, property prices at the docks will take a much more positive turn over the coming months.

I am delighted to say I do not know the internal layout of the prison and therefore any comments are subject to the suitability of the buildings. However, this is a perfect opportunity to move the police headquarters and adjoining offices into what could be a really interesting development and get rid of the appalling buildings they occupy at present. There is something quite appealing about the prison becoming the police headquarters. Others might say that if Gloucester City Council are moving out of their warehouses at the docks, the prison could be the perfect place for them. This would leave the warehouses available for conversion into more residential units.

Alternatively, is there an opportunity to do something similar to the Black Country Living Museum at Dudley? I do not know how that is funded but it appears to be a great asset to Dudley and would bring more visitors to Gloucester.

Flats? Offices? Hotel?

Maybe, but please whatever we do let's make it spectacular and something we can all be proud of.

I have heard one or two saying who would want to live or work at somewhere that was "The Prison"?

I think there is great kudos to be gained from its previous use and I just hope we make the most of it.

Turn it into a transit facility..Eg the Romanians and Bulgarians come here for a short stay prior to being returned forthwith to their parent country....

Turn it into a prison museum like Dartmoor or Littledean in the Forest of Dean, Not a £300 pound hotel or flats.

I Have already expressed my Views on what to do with the Prison and a lot of people agree with me. We do need another Tourist Attraction In Gloucester and The Prison would be Perfect. It Would bring Visitors in to Gloucester not only in the day time but the night time too. Helping with the Night time Economy that really does need a Boost in the City. If The Prison was Made into a Tourist Attraction and Museum for people to look around in the day and Here the History of The Prison Think Of The revenue this would bring in. At Night .......A Spooky Stay overnight and paranormal Event where I Am certain people will pay to stay the Night in a Cell , have a PRISON Theme Night There or Even a package deal for a Weekend Paranormal Stay ...This is very very popular all over The Country at The Moment. People Love To Stay In 'haunted ' Buildings and Castles The Prison Would Be Perfect. It Wouldn't even have to change , only to make sure it is Safe for the Public , Thus Saving A lot Of Money , as People will want to experiences the Prison as it is now....There is Also A Strong Possibility It May Be Filmed In The Next Series Of Great British Ghosts to which I Am Really Hoping For. Please Do Not Let This GOLDEN Opportunity Pass........And Before I Get the Negative remarks and the people that think I am doing this for my own Gains I say This... If you think that , then you do not know me... Yes I am Passionate about Our City . Yes I Would Love To Get Involved , Yes I AM Sure this would Work and Yes we need The People of Gloucester to Support This Idea...Before It Is Too Late..If You Agree with me. please , please, please, Voice your Opinion To The Powers That Be and Let's Make This Happen. Whatever is done I hope they keep the Victorian buildings . These could be renovated . Yes, police headquarters etc, or , entice Robert Opie back ..... since leaving Gloucester Docks he's been a success world wide ! What a missed opportunity , that the powers that be couldn't have the foresight to keep him in Gloucester ! We very badly need a good tourist attraction and nostalgia is and always will be big business and pull in the punters.

It seems perfectly logical to me that we have the perfect opportunity to take this area and build a Justice Hub. New police headquarters, new probation offices, new Crown, Magistrates and County Court, new CPS offices; purpose built and fit for purpose, up to date encompassing all the latest communication hardware and software. It can be paid for by selling off the current police HQ and other offices currently occupied by the Probation Service &c. How many cities get such an opportunity? And, the massive pay off, such modern buildings will almost certainly mean massively reduced operating costs, win win! The current Bearlands site is an eyesore and I have no doubts expensive to run and maintain.
